Supervalu, which runs groceries such as Cub Foods and Shop 'n Save, nearly doubled its store count by buying most of Albertson's, which included stores under that name as well as Jewel-Osco, Shaw's and Star Market. It now trails only Kroger Co. (KR) and Safeway Inc. (SWY) among the top U.S. grocery chains.

HEALTH INSURANCE (The study used the Department of Justice (DOJ) system called the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index, which measures antitrust concerns. A score above 1,000 on the index shows "moderate" market concentration and a score above 1,800 shows "high" market concentration.)

According to researchers:

• Based on the index, 95 percent of the metropolitan areas scored higher than 1,800. Sixty-seven percent of metropolitan areas scored above 3,000.
• Additionally, each of 43 states studied was measured as having a "high" market concentration.
• North Dakota was among the states with the highest market concentrations, with about 90 percent of its market controlled by the state's Blue Cross Blue Shield provider.
• Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama controlled more than 90 percent of the market in parts of Alabama.

The Obama administration has made it official policy not to prosecute fraud.  Indeed, the “watchdogs” in D.C. are so corrupt that they are as easily bribed as a policeman in a third world banana republic.

The mouthpieces in Wall Street and D.C.  pretend that financial  fraud (like Libor) is a “victimless crime“.

But the World Bank notes that the financial crisis  – you know, the one caused by financial fraud – has driven between 64 and  100 million people into destitution.

A staggering 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now seeking compensation for injuries they say are service-related. That is more than double the estimate of 21 percent who filed such claims after the Gulf War in the early 1990s, top government officials told The Associated Press.

What's more, these new veterans are claiming eight to nine ailments on average, and the most recent ones over the last year are claiming 11 to 14. By comparison, Vietnam veterans are currently receiving compensation for fewer than four, on average, and those from World War II and Korea, just two.

 

No More Children Working Family Farms

Here are the propsed administrative law changes in full.

Under the rules, children under 18 would be prevented by the federal government from working “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials” and prohibited “places of employment would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.”

In addition to making it far more difficult for families to work their farms, the new rules will revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA and replace them with a 90-hour federal government training course, the Daily Caller reports.

In other words, the federal government will forcibly insert itself in the business of teaching animal husbandry and crop management, disciplines traditionally passed on by families and local communities.

BLS Fudges Veteran's Unemployment Data | #propaganda #nwo

A new survey by a prominent veterans advocacy group has found an unemployment rate among veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that is significantly higher than the rate reported in a recent government survey.

Nearly 17% of veterans surveyed by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America said they were unemployed, the group said Monday. A survey released last week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics put the unemployment rate at 12.1% for veterans who have served since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Congress, Banking, and Derivatives ~ Weapons of Mass Destruction

Lawmakers allowed bank consolidation and market power in violation of the Riegle-Neal Interstate Banking and Branching Efficiency Act of 1994. That act specified that no single bank may hold more than 10 percent of total retail deposits. Unfortunately, since 1994 two limitations of Riegle-  Neal became clear, (1) the growth of big banks was not fuelled by retail deposits but  rather by various forms of “wholesale” financing, and (2) the cap was not enforced by lax regulators, so that Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo all received waivers in recent years.

Then Congress had to repeal the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, so that any financial institution can act as an investment bank, a commercial bank, and/or an insurance company.  They hid this as the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999.

To capitalize on insatiable greed, banks started marketing OTC derivatives (a.k.a. as swaps).  For swaps, delivery places and dates, volume, technical specifications, and trading and credit procedures are subject to negotiation by the parties to the contracts. Swaps are traded on a bilateral basis not on a public exchange. The exposure is to default by the counterparty. Credit risk mitigation measures, such as regular mark-to-market and margining, are optional for swaps. Swaps have no regulatory oversight, they are simply goverened by the contractual relations between the parties.

Here is the takeaway: OTC derivatives grew to an estimated size of about $596 trillion before crashing in Sept. 2008. By contrast, the value of the world's financial assets—including all stock, bonds, and bank deposits—was pegged at $167 trillion in 2007.
